Bodum USA is recalling approximately 5.9 million French press coffee makers after dozens of burn injuries. The recall affects 8-cup and 12-cup models including Bistro, Brazil, Caffettiera, Chambord, Crema, Java, Jesper, and Kenya machines sold between 1974 and October 2026 at retailers including Target, Walmart, and Amazon for $15 to $65 each.
The glass carafes can break unexpectedly during use if damaged or cracked, particularly when metal spoons are used to stir the coffee. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission confirmed the hazard. Bodum USA has received 70 reports of carafes breaking, with 48 involving burns.
The company is offering affected consumers a plastic Bodum stirring spoon and a warning label. Owners should avoid using metal utensils to stir coffee and stop using any cracked or damaged carafes. Those with affected models can contact Bodum to receive the replacement spoon and warning materials.
